Celebrating Pride Month: Honoring History, Uplifting Community

Every June, we celebrate Pride Month—a time to honor the LGBTQIA+ community, reflect on the journey toward equality, and recognize the strength and beauty of living authentically. But Pride is more than colorful parades and rainbow flags—it's rooted in a powerful history of resilience and activism.

Pride Month commemorates the Stonewall Uprising of June 1969 in New York City, when LGBTQIA+ individuals, led by trans women of color like Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera, stood up against police harassment and discrimination. That pivotal moment sparked a global movement and laid the foundation for the rights many continue to fight for today.

Over the decades, Pride has grown into both a celebration and a call to action. It reminds us that while progress has been made, challenges persist—especially for trans people, LGBTQIA+ youth, and people of color within the community. Pride is not just about visibility—it's about justice, equity, and amplifying voices that are too often marginalized.

At the heart of Pride is community.

Whether you're finding your place in the world or standing beside someone on their journey, building and supporting community is essential. It’s in these spaces—of understanding, acceptance, and shared joy—that healing and empowerment happen.

This Pride Month, let’s celebrate boldly, remember deeply, and commit to uplifting one another. Whether you're attending a local event, educating yourself, or simply showing kindness, every action helps create a more inclusive and loving world.

Because Pride isn’t just a month—it’s a movement.
